Welcome to Beggars Reach Hotel, Pembrokeshire
We are a formidable team. We have been married for 27 years and have two adult children, Anna who is 22 and Harry, 20. We have both worked in the hospitality industry for over 37 years.
Gill went to Pembrokeshire College followed by Dorset Institute of Higher Education, (now Bournemouth University) to study for a Higher Tec Diploma and William studied at Worcester Technical College. Having gained our qualifications, we worked as Trainee Managers, Gillian at a 4 star Hotel in Bournemouth and William in a 4 star Hotel in Droitwich called The Chateau Impney.
From here he did some traveling in the Caribbean on cruise ships and then a while in New York and Germany before returning to the UK to the 5 star Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth. Gill, in the meantime, gained promotion to the same hotel as Operations Manager - responsible for the daily running of this prestigious quality hotel with 132 bedrooms and conference and banqueting facilities for up to 350 people.
It was whilst here that they gained a mutual respect for one anothers abilities in the work place and an admiration for each others aims and ambitions - to one day own and run their own quality establishment. In 1988, William moved to Deputy General Manager of the 4 star Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne, a grand Victorian Hotel with 114 bedrooms and stylish elegance. Gillian moved to the famous Grand Hotel Brighton, as Operations Manager for a time before becoming Deputy General Manager at the Queens Hotel in Eastbourne. The latter part of her time here was spent as acting General Manager, a popular 3 star hotel on the seafront with 108 bedrooms and conferences for 350.
With the arrival of our daughter Anna in 1994, William was by then General Manager of the Cavendish Hotel and in 1996 we moved to Stratford Upon Avon, home of William Shakespeare, as General Manager of the Grosvenor Hotel where he was instrumental in the achievement of a coveted AA rosette for the quality of its food.
During this time, Gillian was a housewife and mother, and Harry, their son was born. William decided to make another move to the George Hotel in Crawley, part of the Regal Group. It was whilst selling their home in Stratford, together with the prospect of moving the family again that they decided that now was a good time to achieve their ambition to own and run their own business.
And so, here we are! The Beggars Reach is our long term future and we intend to channel all our energies and past experiences into fulfilling our dream.
